Q&A
This section covers questions and answers about TWIM Electric Bill Rationalization Solution.
  • Q
Who is eligible for the TWIM Electric Bill Rationalization Solution?
    A
All small and medium-sized businesses (manufacturing factories) with a peak power of 300kW to 1,000kW are eligible for the project.
  • Q
Is there any problem using electricity when switching from high voltage to low voltage?
    A
    A. In accordance with Article 23 of KEPCO's Basic Supply Terms (electricity supply method, supply voltage, and frequency), it is possible to supply up to 1,000kW at low voltage.
There are no issues with using electricity when switching from high voltage to low voltage. The basis is that there is a separate low-voltage rate plan in KEPCO's electricity rate table. The criterion for distinguishing between high and low voltage is as follows:if KEPCO supplies 220V or 380V directly to your building, it is low voltage; if KEPCO supplies 22,900V and it is converted to 220V or 380V through an on-site substation, it is high voltage.
  • Q
Difference between high voltage and low voltage
    A
    High Voltage Low Voltage
Detail 22,900V high-voltage electricity is supplied from KEPCO and converted to 380V through its own transformer. 380V low-voltage electricity supplied directly from KEPCO
Construction cost Initial facility construction costs are relatively low (KEPCO facility charge is about 1/7 of the low voltage rate) Initial facility construction costs are relatively high (KEPCO facility charges are 7 times more than high-voltage charges)
Electrical safety management Since high-voltage electricity is supplied, there is an obligation to appoint an electrical safety manager. Since low-voltage electricity is supplied, there is no obligation to appoint an electrical safety manager.
Safety High risk of electric shock (danger when approaching the transformer) Low risk of electric shock
Power outage risk Power outages may occur due to aging of the own high-voltage transformer. (Problems related to factory operation and product production) High power supply stability due to direct supply from KEPCO
Maintenance cost Replacement costs and regular inspection costs due to aging of transformers, etc. No maintenance costs as KEPCO transformers are used rather than own transformers.
Additional expansion Expansion possible through additional transformer purchase and line construction Only a maximum of 500kW is possible per business site, and additional expansion may be difficult.
Power factor management If power is not used efficiently, a penalty fee is charged based on the percentage of loss. No power factor charges due to direct supply from KEPCO
  • Q
Is it possible to apply low voltage to new buildings?
    A
New buildings with a contracted power of 500kW or less can have low voltage applied from the time of construction.
